Julianne Hough and Derek Hough's Mom Marriann Hough Makes Rare Public Appearance at DWTS Finale

Dancing With the Stars' Julianne Hough and Derek Hough's mom Marriann Hough showed her support during the season 34 finale on Nov. 25. See their rare family outing.

The Dancing With the Stars finale was a family affair for Julianne Hough and Derek Hough.

The co-host and the judge's mom Marriann Hough was in the audience to support her kids, as well as watch finalists Alix Earle, Dylan Efron, Elaine Hendrix, Robert Irwin and Jordan Chiles compete for the Mirrorball Trophy. (Click here to find out who won.)

In fact, the trio snapped a family photo during a commercial break, with Julianne and Derek whose dad is Bruce Hough flanking the matriarch with a sweet hug.

The siblings have never been shy about their love for Marriann. Five years ago, Julianne bought her mom a house, writing in a 2020 Instagram post, “My Mother has given given given….. its now her time to receive"

And Marriann isn’t the only new face in the ballroom this time around. 

After all, according to Derek, DWTS is no longer a show for the older generation, as he’s seen more young people become invested this year.

"It was a running joke for so many years like, 'Oh my grandma loves the show,' but now it's the opposite," the 40-year-old recently told E! News. "Now, parents are like, 'My kids have to watch the show.' It's such a bonding show and even more so now that we have multiple generations watching together. It's really cool."

And having been a part of the ABC dance competition on and off since 2007, Derek has had a front row seat to its evolution.

Calling DWTS' ongoing 20-year run "incredible," the six-time Mirrorball champion added that a reason why the series has found a younger audience is because the next generation "wants to watch traditional television."

"They don't want to watch the next day," he added. "They want to sit in front of the TV and watch it live."
